  • Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary Family Program – Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary focuses its efforts on educating the general public about the wild wolf, wolves and wolf-dogs in captivity. Wolf ambassadors wolf demonstrate such points as wolf physical characteristics, behavior, wild wolf diet, hunting strategies, family life, physical adaptations and pack structure, the difference between wolves and dogs, wild and domestic animals, and some of the myths about wolves portrayed by the media, where these ideas originated, and why they are false.   • The Rare Splendors of Namibia – John Pitts discusses the two-week trip he organized and led to Namibia in the spring of 2018. This, his third trip to Namibia, also featured co-leader and Santa Fe resident geologist Kirt Kempter, who reveals the dramatic geologic history of Namibia, including world-class rock art sites. The group also visited two surviving tribes native to Namibia, the San (Bushman) and the Himba, and viewed a wide variety of wildlife.   • 100 Women Who Care in Santa Fe  Here’s an update on donations collected from our Feb. 7th meeting: $10,416 for SFPS Adelante, $5,225 for Reading Quest & $600 for S.E.E.D.S makes a grand total of $16,241 for three great non-profits in Santa Fe! Thank you members for being a part of this wonderful group! We together are truly making a difference in Santa Fe.
  • 100 Kids Who Care in Santa Fe is looking student liaisons at each of the high schools in Santa Fe to help build the group by announcing the meetings, putting up flyers and encouraging fellow students to attend. There are only 2 meetings left for this school year: Sat. Mar. 31 and Sat. Apr. 21. If you know of a student who would be interested in being a part of the founding board and representing their school, please contact Coco Randolph. FYI  For the meetings kids bring $5 to $20 ($5 = 1 vote) and support local non-profits. Together kids can make a difference too!

A concert of choral music that explores the thrill and excitement that a storm brings, but also the dread that it instills, and the devastation that it causes. Farolito Walk
One of Santa Fe’s most beloved holiday traditions, the Canyon Road Farolito Walk – 5pm on Christmas Eve.

Small, sand-filled, paper bags illuminated with votive candles line the historic neighborhood streets and adobe walls. Carolers gather around the farolitos (Spanish for paper lantern; diminutive of farol,lantern; from faro, lighthouse, lantern; from Latin pharus, from Pharus, Pharos) and sing for joy as they warm themselves, and our hearts, from the cold night.

Cool Pick of the Week

In conjunction with Cultural Survival, you are invited to a very special evening event Fri., Nov. 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe Community Foundation featuring Maori elder and activist Pauline Tangiora and special guests. Ms. Tangiora will hold a dialogue around how each of us can rise up in our own community and become empowered in our actions, including and especially our youth.  Q & A will follow.  This is a rare opportunity to host Grandmother Pauline in Santa Fe!

Pauline TangioraA Nobel Peace Prize nominee in 2005 for her work with the 1,000 Women for Peace project, Pauline Tangiora is a Maori elder/activist for indigenous and human rights as well as a youth empowerment advocate. She is one of the 2017 recipients of the Bremen International Peace Award for her work. She is an Earth Charter Commissioner and former president and current vice president of Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, Aotearoa.  A former representative for the World Council for Indigenous Peoples, life member of the Maori Women’s Welfare League and a committee member of Rigoberta Menchu Tum’s Nobel Laureate Indigenous Initiative for Peace,  Pauline is also one of the 50 council members of the World Future Council and ambassador of the International Council of Indigenous Grandmothers and one of the founding members of Rising Women Rising World.

We are grateful to the Santa Fe Community Foundation for hosting this event.  The foundation is located at 501 Halona St. Santa Fe, NM  87501.  Street parking is available.
Cost:  $20, Students under 18 are free.  All proceeds go to support Ms. Tangiora’s work.
