Cool Pick of the Week
In conjunction with Cultural Survival, you are invited to a very special evening event Fri., Nov. 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe Community Foundation featuring Maori elder and activist Pauline Tangiora and special guests. Ms. Tangiora will hold a dialogue around how each of us can rise up in our own community and become empowered in our actions, including and especially our youth. Q & A will follow. This is a rare opportunity to host Grandmother Pauline in Santa Fe!
A Nobel Peace Prize nominee in 2005 for her work with the 1,000 Women for Peace project, Pauline Tangiora is a Maori elder/activist for indigenous and human rights as well as a youth empowerment advocate. She is one of the 2017 recipients of the Bremen International Peace Award for her work. She is an Earth Charter Commissioner and former president and current vice president of Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, Aotearoa. A former representative for the World Council for Indigenous Peoples, life member of the Maori Women’s Welfare League and a committee member of Rigoberta Menchu Tum’s Nobel Laureate Indigenous Initiative for Peace, Pauline is also one of the 50 council members of the World Future Council and ambassador of the International Council of Indigenous Grandmothers and one of the founding members of Rising Women Rising World.
We are grateful to the Santa Fe Community Foundation for hosting this event. The foundation is located at 501 Halona St. Santa Fe, NM 87501. Street parking is available.
Cost: $20, Students under 18 are free. All proceeds go to support Ms. Tangiora’s work.
