Hail, Hail Rock ‘n’ Roll: Happy 50th, Woodstock! Combing an outstanding selection of classic rock portraits with an exhibition featuring the historic images and memorabilia of Woodstock 1969, paying tribute to a pivotal era in American music and culture. The exhibition includes iconic portraits and moments by Santa Fe locals Lisa Law and Baron Wolman, along with scenes from the three-day weekend by Henry Diltz, Jim Marshall, Roger Ballen and Jason Lauré. Opera Book Club: Charles Jessold, Considered as a Murderer – Collected Works and the Santa Fe Opera Guild present Vivace, a book group devoted to readings about the world of opera. In Wesley Stace’s novel, Leslie Shepherd, a music critic nearing the end of his life, reflects on the shocking murder-suicide that rocked London society years before, and strangely echoes the plot of his opera—which Shepherd has helped to write. RAP Community Poetry Class – Join an ongoing craft workshop and conversation that culminates in a public reading in the Railyard Park, as well as a chapbook in the fall. The first half of class is be dedicated to reading and discussing contemporary poems, with each class focused on one of many aspects of craft (voice, tone, structure, style and so forth)—bring a journal. The second half of class is a workshop, where individuals can bring copies of their own poems for peer review, followed by an open discussion and constructive feedback from the class. While writing may not cure, it can heal, according to scientific studies. Writing with others on parallel paths will be our avenue to reclaim our voices, and reconnect with our lives. Minnesota Boychoir – The Twin Cities-based choir hits the road for its 36th annual summer tour; the group is considered one of the finest traditional boy choirs in the country. Each year, the Minnesota Boychoir embarks upon an international or domestic tour, singing everywhere from St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, the French Riviera and the Sydney Opera House to Winnipeg and Kansas City. This year, 58 boys from the Cantabile and Allegro ensembles hit the road from June 19-30 to perform across the US Southwest. Program highlights include British composer Bob Chilcott’s arrangement of U2’s “MLK;” Billy Joel’s “Good Night My Angel;” “All Good Gifts” from Godspell; Bradley Ellingboe’s “How Can I Keep From Singing;” and “Long Walk to Freedom,” based on a text by Nelson Mandela. Also included in the concert are the Spanish language pieces “Yole Canto” and “Viva La Quince Brigada.”

L.A. band, We Are the West, will perform live at the Lensic Theater during the premiere event featuring music from the movie. The 2 Hearts Movie Premiere proceeds will benefit an initiative that will increase the likelihood of survival for those suffering from cardiac arrest by providing advanced training to CHRISTUS St. Vincent Associates and Santa Fe First Responders in cutting edge CPR techniques.
The Buckaroo Ball is in need of more community sponsors, or just individuals willing to purchase tables or event tickets to meet the goal of $100,000 for this year’s four grantees: Communities in Schools, SFPS Adelante, Earth Care, and Resolve. We begin at 10:00 am with timed writing exercises. Our work is based on the internationally acclaimed Amherst Writers & Artists method. After lunch you’ll spend the afternoon in silent communion with other writers, working on whatever project is preoccupying you as a writer these days. Joanne will have prompts ready if you feel stuck. You are also welcome to walk in the peaceful arroyo just behind her house.
