Seagull-PosterjpgFilm Festival: The short film Seagull, by 2 Cats Productions was selected to show at the Albuquerque Film & Music Experience on Saturday, June 10 at 4PM in the “Women Who Rock” screening at the South Broadway Cultural Center. Writer, Director & Producers Catherine Fridey and Catharine Pilafas, of 2 Cats Productions, spoke at our SFW2W Luncheon in March. They will be touring with Seagull to several European Film Festivals this fall. These two talented and fearless women could use some support. Want to pitch in & help cover their hotel in Edinburgh? Or chip in to pay for their train tickets to Leeds?  Any amount of donation will help. Email me and I’ll put you in touch. Movie Review: Piuma

Young love and the consequences of un-protected sex make up the story line for this sweet indie Italian film entitled Piuma, which means feather in English. Piuma was the closing film during the CineFesta Italia festival in Santa Fe this June. A roller coaster of emotions occurs between the two young lovers as they try to comprehend just how this unplanned pregnancy will affect their lives and the lives of their dysfunctional parents.

I went to the Food Truck Festival and had dessert at The S’more Pit. Fun & Yum! FYI, they do pop-ups, parties and special events. (photos by Katie Rountree)

** The S’More Pit is a Santa Fe start-up that offers homemade, organic S’Mores complete with campfires over which to roast your mallow.   • Building Homes for Families: St. Bede’s Episcopal Church sponsors a team each year to build a house for a family living in extreme poverty in the Ciudad Juarez, Mexico area. They are celebrating the silver anniversary, their 25th house built since 2000, with the house that will be built in early 2018. A generous member of the 2017 team has offered a challenge grant of $1,000 to be met by June 15 and they welcome contributions of any amount to the Challenge.  Checks can be made out to St. Bede’s Episcopal Church, with Juarez Challenge Grant in the memo.  Send to St. Bede’s Episcopal Church, 1601 S.   • Rescuing Baby Elephants: A friend left this week for Africa and asked if I could pass along info about this organization that rescues baby elephants when their mothers have been brutality murdered. 2 Cats Productions is the collaboration between New Mexico Writer/Producer Catherine Fridey & New Mexico Actor/Director Catharine Pilafas. Between the two, they wrote, directed, produced and starred in the six minute short film that they are now hoping to take to film festivals. If you’d like to help these creative and talented women by sponsoring a film fest application fee (anywhere from $25 to $100 per application) they’d love your help.
