  • Santa Fe Homeless Persons’ Memorial Vigil – In conjunction with the National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day, join the New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness for a memorial ceremony to honor and celebrate the lives of homeless friends and neighbors who passed away in 2018.   • Museum Hill Holiday Stroll – Free admission to the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture and the Museum of International Folk Art.   • Holiday Market: Recycled and Reimagined – The International Folk Art Market and four artists in the IFAM family have partnered with clothier Eileen Fisher’s  recycling program to revitalize and create new garments.   • Mandala Construction Closing Ceremony – The monks of Drepung Loseling Monastery construct a sand mandala by pouring colored sand into place over a period of nine days. They are creating a Green Tara, who is called upon for protection, health, happiness, wisdom, abundance and success, and is the female manifestation of enlightenment. After finishing the mandala between 10 am and noon, attend a closing ceremony and destruction of the mandala at 1 pm.

  • Adelante Winter Fundraiser – The Santa Fe Public Schools’ Adelante Program for disadvantaged and homeless youth hosts great Latin music from Nosotros, an arts and crafts fair, silent auction, raffle, ugly sweater contest, and a special flight of winter-warmer brews.   • Santa Fe Women’s Ensemble: Songs of Hope and Light –  brings together music inspired by overriding Emily Dickinson’s poem “Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul.” In addition, they perform beloved Christmas carols from all over the world, as well as non-religious about hope persisting in winter, to provide a total expression of Dec. Light Among the Ruins – More than 1,500 farolitos light up the Giusewa Pueblo and San Jose de los Jemez Mission ruins in Jemez in what may be the most beautiful event in New Mexico all season. Bundle up, arrive early (it gets crowded), stroll the grounds, enjoy Native dances and music around bonfires, get some hot chocolate and shop an artisans market. The Jemez Valley High School band performs intermittently as well. Judging by how popular this has been in years past, the site is now staggering admission times, so get your entry-specific ticket ASAP. Jemez Historic Site, $5 – $10, Sat, Dec 8 from 5 – 9pm – tix here

  • Border Partners Holiday Sale – Gift items created by women who live in the town of Palomas, Chihuahua, Mexico, benefit the makers directly. The sale is sponsored by Border Partners, a nonprofit organization based in Deming, NM. A small group of women sew the items in their homes to support themselves and their families; Border Partners then helps them help themselves through efforts including developing jobs and businesses such as the women’s collective. Palomas was devastated by the drug wars of the mid-2000s; many people were killed and most of the town’s residents live in poverty, without clean water, adequate nutrition or good educations.   • Young Native Artists Winter Show & Sale – The next generation of Native American artists demonstrate and sell their own arts and crafts in the Meem Community Room. New Mexico History Museum, Sat, Dec 1 from 10am – 3pm

Plaza Tree Lighting – Fri, Nov 23: Starting at 3 pm, Girl Scouts are on hand to provide cookies and hot chocolate. At 4 pm, Santa and Mrs. Claus show up on a vintage fire truck, and at 4:30 pm, volunteers start lighting 1,000 farolitos. At 6 pm, they flip the switch and light up the trees on the Plaza for the holidays.

  • Cranksgiving – This two-wheeled, pedal-powered food drive is part bike ride, part food drive and part scavenger hunt. All you need is a bike, a bag, and a lock. Cheri O’Brien Fine Art gallery hosts an eclectic group of talented artists who dabble with skeletons, create scamps and a scallywag or two.  Artwork inspired by Dia de los Muertos, the celebration of death and life.  Artists joining Ms. O’Brien are Jennie Cooley, Holly Wood, Kathleen O’Neil, Lisbeth Cort, Wendy Foster and Larry D. 3 Artists @natasha SANTA FE – Leah Siegel: Using older photographs to create a different body of work — obscured, murky and stained with a blood-reddish tone. Joseph Griffo: plaster castings, using graphite and alcohol emulsions to create ancient looking textures, fine etched detail and mysterious markings. Zoe Viles –  photographs of traces in sand left when the tide recedes – a rhythmic, relaxed.

  • Dia de los Muertos Mariachi Benefit Concert – Traditional Mexican music by Lone Piñon, dance performances by Ballet Folklorico de Santa Fe, and mariachi music by Mariachi Sonidos Del Monte.   • Dia de los Muertos Public Celebration – Decorate sugar skulls (calaveras de azure), make paper altars (nichos) and experience calavera face painting. Sample traditional Mexican treats and listen to Los Flores del Valle musical performance. Come dressed as a calaca (skeleton). Bring flowers, candles and/or a memento to add to our community altar. Museum of International Folk Art, 706 Camino Lejo, Sun, Oct 28, 1- 4pm
  • Haunted Jemez – Cañon resident Sharon Chism’s roughly half-acre of private property features several spooky scenes outdoors—take a walk around and check out almost two dozen animated and non animated creatures on a circular path. There’s a Western scene, English graveyard, witch’s tea party, werewolves, zombies, Hearse, caskets, mausoleum and plenty more. It’s located on Highway 485—that’s on the way to the Gilman Tunnels, for those who like to take mini-road trips to cool Northern New Mexico destinations. Once you turn off Highway 4 to get on Highway 485, drive about 3 miles until you see a line of pumpkins near a graveyard on the right, and you’ve made it. For Halloween, Chism offers hot dogs, chips, drinks and s’mores around a campfire. Of course, candy will be handed out to all the trick or treaters. Wed, Oct 31, 10am – 10pm

  • A Couple of Spots Still Available for BE A HONEY & LEARN THE BUZZ ON BEES – Register now for Oct 20 Workshop. Be an apiarist for the day by learning about some of New Mexico’s 500 species of bees, including HONEY BEES! You will learn about bee artistry by studying their honeycomb, how they live their lives and how we need them in our environment. This one day class will fill you in on everything “bees” from plants to pollination, hives, gardens and how to increase their populations and attract them to your garden. – Lunch will be a creative mix of bee reliant fruits and vegetables along with a full meal and tasting, selecting and pairing various local honeys. Takeaways: Using a combination of materials, you will assemble your own native bee house and make a pair of hand dipped beeswax candles. $100 per person.
