  • Joe Illick: “The Ring” in 60 Minutes—A Talk at the Piano – In just 60 minutes, multi-talented maestro Illick introduces us to the entire saga of Richard Wagner’s The Ring Cycle, playing the piano (and sometimes singing) the complex notes that Wagner wrote for an orchestra of 88 or more. A collaboration with the Wagner Society of Santa Fe.   • Journeysantafe: Meet with County Commissioner Anna Hansen and learn about current initiatives, ranging from the construction of a new administration building, sustainability projects, improvements and changes to the DCI code for hard rock mining, and much more.   • WISC Fellow-in-Residence Dr. Jennifer Denetdale of UNM’s Feminist Research Institute presents “The Photographs of Milton Snow and the Making of the Modern Navajo Nation, 1937-1959″.   • Calling All Minds, An Evening with Temple Grandin – As one of the first individuals on the autism spectrum to publicly share insights from her personal experience of autism, Temple Grandin presents encouraging and important messages about this disorder and “differently-labelled brains.”  Thurs, Jun 6 at 7 p.m. The Lensic Performing Arts Center, tickets available at www.lensic.org
  • Mark Your Calendars for the upcoming Women to Women Luncheons: Wed. June 19, noon at Cowgirl, $25 at the door with Connie Knudson, Feng Shui Specialist & Author of the best-selling book The Feng Shui of Personal Transformation (RSVP here) AND Wed. July 10 at noon, location TBD, with Valerie Plame, former career covert CIA operations officer, international speaker, author & advocate for the elimination of nuclear weapons. We’ll be selling tickets in advance for the luncheon with Valerie Plame and will send out an announcement.   • Saturday Writers’ Sanctuary with Joanne Fay Brown
    Jumpstart your writing, Juice up your creativity in the company of other writers Sat, June 29, 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
    We begin at 10:00 am with timed writing exercisesOur work is based on the internationally acclaimed Amherst Writers & Artists method.  After lunch you’ll spend the afternoon in silent communion with other writers, working on whatever project is preoccupying you as a writer these days. Joanne will have prompts ready if you feel stuck. You are also welcome to walk in the peaceful arroyo just behind her house. Writing ends at 3:30 pm but you can stay a while, share some of what you’ve been working on, discuss issues of craft, etc. The day is completed by 4:30. p.m. All are welcome! Space is limited — reserve yours! COST: $99. Lunch is included! We meet in a comfortable home less than a mile from the Santa Fe Plaza. Joanne Fay Brown has been leading Amherst Writers & Artists Workshops since 2012. She worked as a writer in the corporate world for 25 years and now devotes herself to poetry, and to the magic of writing with others. www.joannebrown.com
